Submission Guidelines

The Jackson Hole Review is currently accepting submissions for its Winter 2011 issue. The deadline for submissions is January 12, 2011.
Theme: Connect/Disconnect
Author Kim Barnes has observed, “There are so many ways in which the West – or at least the idea of the West – is a study in contradictions. We are both nomadic and desirous to put down roots… We want both community and isolation.”
The western expansion of quote-unquote civilization was finalized with the colonization of the Pacific Coast, but the intrepid spirit that made that achievement possible seems still to emanate from the West’s mountains, valleys, rivers, mesas, buttes, grasslands, forests and deserts. And that desire to ever stretch boundaries is raveled into the souls of people who proudly declare the West home.
In cities and mountain towns across the West, people come and go with startling frequency. People come out west in search of work, pleasure or escape. Often, after some time, they find need to flee, whether to more urban, rural or culturally diverse locales.
This idiosyncratically Western connect/disconnect provides the theme for the first issue of The Jackson Hole Review’s re-release. We invite you to broadly explore in fiction, narrative non-fiction, poetry, photography or visual art how the contradiction Barnes speaks of plays itself out in the lives of Western people, wherever they or you might be.
